Introduction

In both competitive and recreational shooting, knowing your equipment is as vital as honing your skills. To give shooters a deeper, data-driven view of their performance, the Shooter’s Journal now lets you register firearms and ammunition directly in your profile.

You can link each training or competition session to the specific gear used, building a detailed record of how different setups perform under varying conditions. Over time, this helps reveal patterns, optimize configurations, and guide smarter equipment choices.

Each firearm and ammunition entry includes an automatic shot counter with optional usage limits and notifications—making it easier to track maintenance needs, barrel wear, and ammo lot lifespans.

With all firearms, ammunition, and shooting sessions in one place, recordkeeping is simpler and compliance effortless. Whether you’re testing loads, refining precision, or comparing setups, this integration ensures every shot contributes to a clearer, more complete performance story.

Why should you register Firearms and Ammunition?

Even though the firearm and ammunition data is not yet actively used in analyses or reports, registering this information already adds value. By building your equipment history now, you’re preparing your profile for upcoming features such as data filtering, usage statistics, and personalized practice insights

When these features become available, your past shooting sessions will automatically include complete and connected data—giving you a richer, more accurate picture of your development from day one.

Registration

The first step in using the new firearms and ammunition features is to register your equipment in the Shooter’s Journal. To start the registration, navigate to the Profile page and scroll down until you see the Firearms and Ammunition sections as shown below.

Register firearms

To register your first firearm, simply click on the button “Add firearm”. This will launch the registration form.

Name Free-text field for naming the firearm
Description Optional free-text field for adding more detailed information
Counter Used to initialize the shot counter.
For example, if you know that the firearm has already fired 1,250 shots before this registration, you can set the counter to 1,250.
Limit Defines a limit for the shot counter. If you set this to a non-zero value, you will receive a warning when the number of shots exceeds the limit.
Setting the limit to zero disables the warning.
Type of firearm Rifle or pistol — used for classification purposes only.

At this point, you have entered enough information to start using the registered firearm in the Shooter’s Journal. If you are satisfied with this and do not wish to add parts or additional equipment, simply click the “Create” button at the bottom of the form.

It is possible to add parts and accessories at a later stage as well, if you just want to start using the firearm now.

Parts and accessories

If you would like to register more details about the firearm, you can do this in the lower part of the registration form. The currently supported items are Barrel, Stock, Scope, Chamber, and Trigger.

To register, for example, a barrel on your rifle, make sure Barrel is selected (highlighted in orange), then click “Add new” as shown below.

Now, enter a name for the barrel in the text box that appears. Your newly created barrel will be displayed, and you can add more information as needed. The fields Name, Description, Counter, and Limit have the same meaning as they do for a complete firearm, but in this case, they apply specifically to this barrel.

Register ammunition

To register your first firearm, simply click on the button “Add ammunition”. This will launch the registration form.

Name Free-text field for naming the ammunition.
Description Optional free-text field for adding more detailed information
Counter Used to initialize the counter.
Limit Defines a limit for the counter. E.g. if you bought 2000 rounds of this ammunition, set the limit to 2000 and you can track how many rounds you have left.
Setting the limit to zero disables the warning.

At this point, you have entered enough information to start using the registered ammunition in the Shooter’s Journal. If you are satisfied with this and do not wish to add individual Lots, simply click the “Create” button at the bottom of the form.

It is possible to add lots at a later stage as well, if you just want to start using the ammunition now.

Lots

If you would like to register more details about the ammunition, you can do this in the lower part of the registration form by adding one or more Lots.

To register a new Lot, simply click “Add new” as shown below.

This will bring up an input field for the Lot name, and once you enter a name and click “Create” you have created a new Lot and will be able to add some more details. The supported fields for Lots is similar to the top-level fields of the ammunition.

By registering individual ammunition lots, you can link performance data directly to each batch. This makes it easy to spot variations between lots, monitor consistency, and identify when a specific batch performs better—or needs to be retired. Tracking lot usage also improves traceability and helps ensure accurate records for both performance analysis and safety.

Setting defaults

The system allows you to set default selections for both firearms and ammunition. These defaults are automatically applied when linking firearms or ammunition to existing data, when logging into a monitor, and when data (such as competition results) is automatically associated via your organization member ID.

To change your defaults, go to the Profile page and scroll down to the Firearms and Ammunition section. If you have two or more firearms, you’ll notice that one has a filled star in the upper right corner, while the others have outlined stars. To set a new default, simply click the star icon on the firearm you want to make your default.

Start collecting data

Now that your firearms and ammunition are registered, it’s time to put that information to work. In this chapter, you’ll learn how to link your existing training and competition results to specific gear—and how to use these connections when registering new data. This ensures every session contributes to a complete, accurate picture of your shooting performance.

Linking to existing data

Before you start logging new sessions, you can connect your registered firearms and ammunition to data you’ve already collected. By linking past training and competition results, you’ll create a more complete history of your performance—showing how different setups have influenced your results over time. This foundation makes future analysis and comparisons far more valuable.

To link existing results, open the detail view for the specific course of fire instance.
Navigate to the relevant instance and click the icon highlighted in red in the image below.

By clicking “Add Firearm & Ammunition”, the default firearm and ammunition will be linked to this instance. You should then see a view similar to the image below.

If you intended to link a different firearm or ammunition, enter Edit Mode for this instance by clicking the pencil icon at the bottom of the screen.

When Edit Mode is enabled, arrows will appear on the cards showing the selected firearm and ammunition. You can now change the registered firearm and/or ammunition by swiping or clicking the arrows.

Once the correct firearm and ammunition are selected, click the “Save” button at the bottom of the screen.

Log in to monitor

When logging into a monitor using the QR code, you can select the firearm and ammunition you plan to use in advance, as shown in the image below. The same selection process applies when using the “Add Images” feature.
